The Sickies Are No Fun

I guess I can't complain, I mean my daughter was never sick for the first year of her life. I think she got sniffles once. She was breastfed, wasn't around a lot of other kids often, and has always been in good health.

Right after she was weaned, probably a month or so, she got a stomach bug. She was very ill for a few days. Since then she's gotten another stomach virus, basic cold and coughs, and fever. Last week was weird. She had a fever for almost two days that wasn't too high but, enough to make her miserable. She had a touch of something with her tummy a few days later and then on Saturday she started with a cough in the evening. That turned into croup. She was crabby and coughing on Sunday and then last night was even worse. This is her first real croup. You can tell she doesn't like being sick and is definitely not used to it ha ha.

Kaia is clingy and whiny. I felt really bad for her last night though, because she was coughing even more than the night before. It was hard for her to sleep. Our humidifier died on us after two years, so I went and got a warm vaporizer. That seemed to do the trick after a few hours because her coughing slowed down and she was able to rest. She even slept in a little.

It's never fun to have a sick little one. You feel helpless in making them feel comfortable. Hopefully she will be done after today since there hasn't been fever involved in this croup.

She has been weaned since she was 10 months old. She has had both soy and cow milk. This is just normal viral stuff. She is two and a half now.

Poor baby! Hope she's almost over it now, and that you're doing ok too!

That is like Emma's story. She was nursed and totally at home, so she rarely got sick her first year. Then at 10.5 months she weaned herself but we still nursed once or twice a day. By, 12.5 months she was done...wanted no more of the bood. Then, a month later, she was sicker than she had been her whole life--RSV and croup!!! Glad Kaia is feeling better though! It's always more difficult for us than it is for them!
