What NOT To Get Her For Mother's Day!

I saw a list of things not to get Mom on Mother's Day and thought it was pretty funny! I decided to make my own list and would love to get some other Mom opinions. I've only had two Mother's Days previously so I'm no expert. My first Mother's Day was a total dud and my sweet husband had a lot of explaining to do. I was heart broken. I did however, much later, get one of the sweetest cards I've ever received. Last year? Ha ha. I won't go there.

1. Nothing. If your wife gave birth to your child, it would be nice to at least acknowledge that and recognize all she's done for your offspring and, you for that matter. If it's your mom, come on! You know she deserves at least a little something for all she does for you.

2. Workout equipment-I don't care if she has been complaining about her weight or shape, if she has even pointed out something she would like to have in the near future, or a workout tape that she thinks looks fun. It's not appropriate and will not go.over.well!

3. Lingerie-I may be the only one but, for Mother's Day I don't think it's an appropriate gift. It's about her...not you getting lucky! :) And I think it goes without saying that you would never buy this for your own Mom. ICK!

4. A Snuggie or a Slanket-ha ha I totally stole this one because I was laughing at the thought of getting this for Mother's Day.

5. Last minute gift-By this I mean, getting something the day of or even better, telling her you didn't get something yet and running to the store to go buy it. You had 365 days to figure something out for Mother's Day, Birthday, etc.

6. Kitchen or Domestic items-Yes, she's a mom. Yes, she may really want a Cuisinart and has been begging for it. Mother's Day is the one day a year where Mom can not only feel like mom but, an individual. It's nice to take a break from domestics, especially those of us who are immersed in it all day long. Think of it this way, would you want your wife to buy you new gloves for your welding job as a Birthday or Father's day gift? I didn't think so.

7. Candy-unless you're gonna throw in her favorite candy with a gift that you've bought or made her, just leave the candy out of it. Especially if you buy some generic whatever-they-have-left candy that she'll never touch.

Remember everyone, the thought counts way more than how much you spent. Moms are sentimental creatures. They want to remember their children a certain way, remember how much their husband loved and appreciated them for all they do, and they want to honor their Mom the same way.

I COMPLETELY agree with #5- we have a rule in our house... if you forget about the birthday/event, you're going to be worse off rushing off for a gift than not getting anything at all. So the rule is if you forget you're out of the game. No extra chances.
I HATE a last minute ditch effort gift. hate it.
